Canada’s East Coast is a breeding ground for musical talent. After five years as a cohesive rock band, Caledonia is a leader of the new wave of East Coast music. Steady rhythms laid down by Zac Crouse on bass, and Steve Reble on drums support the layers of Ian Bent’s distorted organs and Steve Gates’ surf-country style guitar. The combination lends an aggressive edge to their eclectic style.
Caledonia’s library of original music lends itself to varying genres including sixties rock grooves, reggae, folk, alt-country, eighties new wave and modern rock.
It’s widely known that Caledonia fans to strap on a pair of dancing shoes when they are on their way to a show. Their passion for groove has enabled the band to expand and develop a unique sound increasingly influenced by new wave bands like The Clash, Elvis Costello and the Police. This attention to rhythm has these self-made musicians carving their own path of impassioned music on the East Coast and taking it international.
Caledonia’s album’s ‘Lost Balloons’ and ‘Waiting to Burn’ have critics hailing their work as a “hidden treasure”, with the Boston Globe stating their song writing has a “sense of structure and craftsmanship”. The Little Caledonia Music Company recently added a fifth member to their band who they claim is ‘the missing link’. Kris Pope, lead guitarist for popular east coast bands Down with the Butterfly, Jenn Grant and Acres & Acres brings his own originality and flair to the band’s composition, playing lap steel and electric guitar.
Working with Dylan Hudecki as their producer (former bassist of By Divine Right); the band's newest album We Are America has received critical acclaim coast to coast.
Caledonia is a well rounded group who leave egos at the door. Three members of the band hold masters degrees, in business, education and classical music performance. All five members of the band work on their own solo projects and for them; Caledonia is a business and a lifestyle. They are happy to perform at a concert hall, your favourite local music venue, weddings or floating down a river in a kayak while playing a ukulele.
